  1. It is important to remember that candles are fire, and if treated improperly can cause serious damage.

  2. Never leave a burning candle unattended or where children or pets can get near it.

  3. Never place candles near curtains or other materials that are flammable.

  4. Handmade Palm & Soy Wax CandlesPlace candles on a hard, steady surface that is heat resistant.

  5. Even non-drip candles will drip under certain circumstances. We recommend that you always place pillar candles on a candle plate or some other non-plastic plate or container.

  6. Candle wicks should always be trimmed to ¼ inch before lighting to prevent smoking. Trim candle wick only when the candle is cold. After extinguishing a candle, clean out any carbon deposits or other foreign materials while the wax is still liquid.

  7. To prevent dripping, keep your candle out of drafts. If the candle starts dripping, extinguish it and let it cool for at least 30 minutes before moving the candle out of the draft and relight.

  8. To get the best burn from both pillar and container candles, burn the candle long enough the first time you light it so a wax pool forms that covers the entire top of the candle. Extinguish the candle when it reaches this point. Depending on the diameter of the candle or container, the initial burn time may be as long as 5 or 6 hours. Subsequently you should try to burn the candle at least as long as necessary for the candle to reach the "memory pool" you created with the first burn. Following these guidelines will ensure a cleaner and longer lasting candle.

  9. When burning, a ″cap″ or ″mushroom″ may form at the top of the wick. This is normal and allows for a wider surface for the flame so the heat radiates to the edges of the candle. You should trim off this cap when the candle is cold.

  10. A candle may burn unevenly if it is in a draft or location where there is constant air flow, or if the wick was not centered properly when the candle was made. If your candle is uneven because it is in a draft, extinguish the candle and move it out of the draft. While the wax is still soft try gently and carefully pushing the burning wick to the higher side of the candle. If the candle begins dripping, extinguish the flame and let the candle cool before relighting. This procedure may have to be repeated several times before the candle burns properly.

If a candle burns unevenly because the wick was not centered when manufactured, try gently pulling the wick to the center of the candle after extinguishing the flame and while the wax is still soft. This may have to be repeated several times, and will only work if the wick is centered at the bottom but moved to one side while cooling.

  11. Despite everything, some candles just may not burn properly. Wick size, the quality of the wax, fragrance and dye, all affect the way a candle burns. Candles by Carolyn uses only quality products, and test burns its candles so that you get a quality burn with each candle. However, if you do have a problem with any of our products, please contact us and we will rectify the problem.
